Betty Lee Jones, of Remington, Virginia, was born October 3, 1949, to Robert Lee Jones and the late Mary Edwards Gibson in Fauquier County, Virginia. At an early age, she was baptized for membership at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Calverton, Virginia. She received her education from Fauquier County Public Schools. On April 27, 1968, Betty was blessed to have a son, the late Stacy Eugene Jones. Eventually, Betty made the decision to move to Washington, DC, where she lived with her grandmother, Dorothy Davis and aunt, Marion Jones.
Betty held jobs at a dry cleaning establishment and a printing company prior to her employment with the Federal Government. As a government employee, Betty handled passport documents before her last position as the supervisor in the mailroom for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Betty felt the calling to move back home and purchased a house in Remington, Virginia. In June 2013, she decided to retire from the job that afforded her years of enjoyment and numerous friends.
Betty loved crocheting, bingo, word searches and traveling. After obtaining her license in her adult years, she and Stacy were known for road trips. Betty had close friends from her time living and working in Washington, DC. Those relationships were maintained after retirement through phone calls, cards and visits. Betty loved cooking and having gatherings with loved ones. As the president of the missionaries at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, she took the duty seriously as she called, sent cards and physically visited with those in the community who were ill. It was only Covid and her health issues that stopped the physical visitations. Betty loved doing a water drive for the local food bank.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her father, Rev. Robert Lee Jones (Carolyn Diane); brothers: James E. Jones, James Edwards, Mark Edwards; sisters: Linda M. Norman and Robyn Lesia Jones; aunts: Rosie Norman and Kathryn Cooke: a niece, Tanisha Jones; great niece, McKinley Jones; great nephew, Bailey Jones and her babies; niece, Devin McClary Jones; and a nephew, Reilly McClary Jones.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 26, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 4440 Catlett Road, Calverton, VA 20138.
